This is a practice list for the first spelling bee to be held Tuesday, December 7.  All words come from the 2011 Spell It! booklet published on-line at the National Spelling Bee website (www.spellingbee.com).  The first 180 words in the spelling bee will come from this list.  When the words on this list have been used up or when there are five spellers left in the bee, whichever comes first, a new list of 50 championship words will be used.  The championship words could be any of the words found in Webster's Third New International Dictionary, unabridged, 2002 edition.  A dictionary with pronunciations and definitions for all of these practice words has been sent to each participating school.
